Gill lives less than a stone’s throw from the Thames in a lovely riverside apartment right on the main riverside walk so popular with joggers and dog walkers. It’s a lovely, airy, open-plan space that would attract attention from interior design programmes and glossy lifestyle magazines.
So what’s not to like we hear you ask? The simple one-word answers is ‘Damp’.
THE ROOF-TOP GARDEN CONUNDRUM
The apartment is in one of those modernist riverside developments that have sprung up all along the south bank of the Thames to the west of Vauxhall Bridge. It’s an upscale place to live, designed to optimise your work-life balance. It includes open garden spaces, some at a raised level, one of which is essentially on Gill’s roof. And thereby hangs the problem. For structural purposes there is a gap of over a metre between Gill’s ceiling and the platform that supports the garden floor. That gap fills with cool air, being next to the river means a lot of moisture and the result is ‘Damp’. And one of the words most often associated with ‘damp’ is ‘cold’.
INFRARED TO THE RESCUE
Initially, in an effort to eliminate the damp, Gill turned her boiler up several notches – only to discover that the cost of heating her space went sky-high. It also didn’t really have the desired effect and the damp persisted. She approached Kiasa for advice and was immediately impressed by their thoughtful approach to the problem.
MINIMISED DAMP MAXIMISED TACTICAL HEATING AT MINIMAL COST
Gill has been delighted with the results for a variety of reasons. First off the damp has been eliminated. Secondly, rather than heat a big space where the heat has to warm the high ceiling before getting down to floor level, Gill can heat individual areas of her open plan room. She has found this has dramatically reduced her heating bills. Finally the entire installation costs and service impressed her:
‘Working with Kiasa was so straightforward and efficient,’ she says. ‘The purchase cost was surprisingly low, the installation was quickly caried out and the advice and follow-up service I have received has been extremely professional.’
