In most cases, yes — a single correctly sized panel will heat a typical room. Sizing depends on floor area, ceiling height, insulation and how many external walls or large windows the room has. As a rough guide, a well-insulated modern room needs around 60–80W per m², while an older or draughtier space with solid walls or single glazing can need closer to 100W per m². A 20m² living room therefore sits somewhere between 1200W and 2000W. Larger or open-plan spaces are often better served by two smaller panels than one large one, because the warmth spreads more evenly. Use our heating calculator for a quick answer, or send us your room dimensions and we will check the selection before you order.
An infrared panel uses electricity only while it is actively heating. Once the room and its surfaces have absorbed warmth, the thermostat cycles the panel on and off, so real-world consumption is well below the panel's rated output — typically around a third to a half of it over an average day, depending on insulation and target temperature. To work out your own figure, multiply the panel's kilowatt rating by your electricity tariff in pence per kWh, then by the hours you expect it to run. A 1000W panel running for four hours costs four units of electricity at your rate. Because you heat only the room you are in, running costs compare favourably with heating a whole house to warm a single space.
For the simplest setup, yes. Choose the built-in thermostat and remote option, fix the bracket, position the panel and plug it into a standard socket — the panel ships with a 1.9m cable and a UK 3-pin plug. No plumbing, no pipework, no structural work. Ceiling mounting, hardwiring into a fused spur, or connecting external controls should be carried out by a qualified electrician. Every panel comes with clear installation instructions, and our UK-based team can talk you through the options before you buy.
