Case Study: All Creatures Great and Small

Keeping Rescue Cats Cosy with KIASA Infrared Heating

About All Creatures, Great and Small

All Creatures Great and Small, a South Wales animal charity, installed KIASA 180W infrared panels in their cattery to provide safe, efficient warmth for their cats and kittens. After successfully using the panels in their office, they expanded to the animal areas—mounting the panels on ceilings and connecting them to individual switches and timers. This setup allows them to heat only occupied pens and save on energy costs, especially in winter. The cats instinctively gravitate to the top shelves when the panels are on, clearly enjoying the gentle, sun-like warmth. Over a year on, the panels continue to make a huge difference—keeping rescue animals warm, healthy, and comfortable all year round.

One Panel at a time

Helping Animals Live Their Best Lives

All Creatures Great and Small is a registered animal rescue charity based in South Wales, run by a passionate team dedicated to providing shelter and second chances to dogs, cats, and many other animals. With a mission to rehome as many pets as possible—or provide them a lifelong safe haven—every detail of their care environment matters. That includes the temperature.

We spoke with Ben, a welfare assistant at the centre, who explained how KIASA’s infrared panels have made a big difference to their furry residents.

The Challenge

Heating Spaces Without Wasting Energy

The charity’s cattery includes a large building for adult cats and a smaller area dedicated to kittens. Keeping these areas warm in the winter, without racking up massive electricity bills, was always a challenge—especially in an environment where not all pens are occupied 24/7.

The needed:
1. Targeted heat (not just warming empty air)
2. Low running costs
3. Safe, silent heating for animals
4. Flexible control

The Solution

KIASA 180W Infrared Panels

The team first trialled a KIASA panel in their office — and it worked so well they expanded into the cattery. Now, 180W KIASA infrared panels are mounted on the ceilings of both the main cat areas and the kitten section. These panels provide gentle, radiant heat that mimics the warmth of the sun — no air movement, no noise, just deep, direct heat.

To keep things efficient, each panel is:
1. Connected to individual switches for pens
2. Controlled via external wall timers, set to turn on intermittently throughout the day
3. Turned off during the summer

Happy Cats, Lower Bills, and Better Control

“When the panels are on, the cats go straight to the top shelves to bask in the heat,” says Ben.

“It’s clear they love it — and it’s made a huge difference during the winter.”

1. Cats naturally gravitate toward the heat sources, especially in colder months
2. Each pen has independent heat control, ensuring panels aren’t left on unnecessarily
3. The energy-efficient timers mean the panels warm the space without spiking electricity costs
4. The panels have been running for over a year, and the charity is thrilled with the impact on both comfort and cost
